olympics

In our alternative project delivery class, I thought this would be an interesting topic for a case study, given the Sochi Olympic Winter Games were just a couple of years ago.

I pick this Olympics because there’s lots written on it.

Based upon the well-publicized issues of the Sochi Winter Games megaproject, would you consider it a success or a failure and why? A little bit of background…The Winter Games were awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2007 w******** c*********************nd eventually balloo******** $********hese games will go down in history as the most expensive to date.  London&rsquo******** $********ow can Russia have a less expensive bid?
Here’s your requirement:

Prepare a 3 pages minimum (excluding title page, abstract and reference page) research paper, 12 font, Times New Roman, double spaced that answers the questions why do megaprojects like the Olympics have such signif******** cost ********uns?

Be sure to use APA Formatting Style (Title Page, Abstract, Running head and proper citation). Please use a minimum of three references, other than Wikipedia.

Your paper should address the following, at a minimum:

• Without rewriting the entire article, provide a brief background and summary of the spending on the Sochi Olympics.
• What are some of the reasons for the project success or failure in your opinion? <********Cost ********un
o Schedule
o Risk not managed
o Infrastructure not present
o Resource material and labor issues
o Environmental road blocks
o Quality not measured against progress
o Lessons learned not reviewed from previous Olympic Games
o Attempts at Green construction
• You can select one and discuss or bring up your own reason why you feel it is a success or failure.
o Here are 2 articles I found to be interesting for this discussion, or you can research your own.
o http://ift.tt/1aKn7aL
o http://ift.tt/1lpJlzG

• In your opinion, what is or what are the root cause(s) of the overruns at the 2014 Sochi Olympics?
o Potential areas to address:
? Low level of definition?
? Excess power of stakeholders other than project manager?
? Corruption, waste and/or greed?
? Honest planning? Did it fail in the pre-execution phase?
? Or was it in the execution phase (scope creep)?

• Compare the Sochi Olympics to the overspendin******** cost ********uns in one other Olympic games, and certainly there are plenty to choose from, among them:
o Athens
o London
o Lake Placid
o Beijing
o Rio
• Draw your own conclusions and apply what you have learned in the CMG 6402 course to make recommendations as to how potentially you may have done things differently had you been either the project Manager or on the Sochi Project Core Team.

Abstract / Background (from my own research): Intended to get you started in your thought process…

Do different types of megaprojects have diff******** cost ********uns? Sure seems like they do, based upon our more local experiences with the Big Dig! The characteristics of megaprojects, particularly in terms of how they are established, run and concluded, are very different and far more complex that ordinary projects.??In preparing for this assignment, I set out to invest******** cost ********uns in the Olympic Games. I did not have to go back very far, starting with the 2012 Summer Games in London!******** cost ********uns are not specific to continent, country or region, they occur pretty consistently at both Summer and Winter Olympics. One common theme seems to be the evolution of final rep******** cost********compared t******** cost********ablished in the Games bids, submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) up to seven years before the Games occurred, etc. ??What I found is that the Games stand out in two distinct ways compared to other megaprojects:

(1) The Games overrun with 100% consistency. No other type of megaproject is this consistent rega******** cost ********un. Other project types are typically on budget from time to time, but not the Olympics.
(2******** cost ********uns Games have historically been significantly larger than for other types of megaprojects, including infrastructure and dam projects. For a city and nation to decide to host the Olympic Games is to take on one of the most financially risky type of megaproject that exists!

Should pit bull terriers be banned in my community

Discussion Forum: Counterarguments (Should pit bull terriers be banned in my community) You created a question about the topic for your W6 Rough Draft. For this discussion, you will give an answer to that question in the form of a thesis statement. "Dieting Makes People Fat" Main Post: Share your thesis statement with your classmates. Please note: As with last week’s discussion, nothing here is set in stone. Be open to changing everything about your topic, including your position and audience, as you research it and get feedback from your classmates. Topic + Position/Purpose + Supporting Points =Thesis Statement Example: Suppose the question you posed in the Week 5 discussion was something like, “Should pit bull terriers be banned in my community?” After doing some preliminary research, you have concluded that pit bulls, if raised properly, are no more dangerous than other breeds of dogs. Your thesis statement can be something like, “Pitbulls should not be banned

Controversy Associated With Dissociative Disorders

Assignment: Controversy Associated With Dissociative Disorders The  DSM-5-TR  is a diagnostic tool. It has evolved over the decades, as have the classifications and criteria within its pages. It is used not just for diagnosis, however, but also for billing, access to services, and legal cases. Not all practitioners are in agreement with the content and structure of the  DSM-5-TR , and dissociative disorders are one such area. These disorders can be difficult to distinguish and diagnose. There is also controversy in the field over the legitimacy of certain dissociative disorders, such as dissociative identity disorder, which was formerly called multiple personality disorder. In this Assignment, you will examine the controversy surrounding dissociative disorders. You will also explore clinical, ethical, and legal considerations pertinent to working with patients with these disorders.
