You are to consider this area, and develop a detailed organisation development plan which clearly addresses what is to be developed and why, and how
In developing your plan, you must:
- Analyse the organisations strategic plans to determine organisation development needs and objectives
- Consult with relevant groups and individuals to profile the organisation’s culture and readiness for organisational development
- Determine who will take key roles in the organisational development process and confirm their commitment
- Collect and analyse data on areas of the business experiencing problems or that need realignment
- Determine and agree on objectives and strategies for organisational development
- Consider change management techniques required to achieve the workplace culture outcomes and build them into the organisation development plan
- Develop communication/education plans to achieve communication objectives in relation to the desired work environment and desired approach to problem-solving and developmental activities
You could consider developing a plan that sets out how your business will align itself to deliver against its strategic vision and goals over the next 3 years.
You should talk with your assessor when identifying a suitable area of the business to develop your development plan around.
This plan should be at least 500 words

ASSESSMENT 1 – ASSESSOR INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions must be followed when assessing the student in this unit. The checklist on the following page is to be completed for each student. Please refer to separate mapping document for specific details relating to alignment of this task to the unit requirements.
This project may be undertaken in one of the following formats:
- On the job where the development of team leadership is required.
These assessments must:
- using a registered and operating workplace
- ensure access to customers relevant to the work role and unit requirements
- ensure access to staff members / colleagues
- ensure candidate is working in a suitable role to the unit (i.e. – candidates undertaking units requiring staff supervision must have staff to supervise, and authority to do so)
- ensure access to relevant, working and current tools and equipment as appropriate to the unit requirement
- relating their project to their current or preferred vocational direction
- tailoring the marketing plan for their business or department
- presenting the marketing plan to their employer, supervisor or assessor (where appropriate)
- Classroom / Simulated environment. These assessments must
- As outlined in the TAA04 Training Package Glossary, “”Simulation is a form of evidence gathering that involves the candidate in completing or dealing with a task, activity or problem in an off-the-job situation that replicates the workplace context. Simulations vary from recreating realistic workplace situations such as in the use of flight simulators, through the creation of role plays based on workplace scenarios to the reconstruction of a business situation on a spreadsheet. In developing simulations, the emphasis is not so much on reproducing the external circumstance but on creating situations in which candidates are able to demonstrate:
- technical skills
- underpinning knowledge
iii. generic skills such as decision making and problem solving
- workplace practices such as effective communication.”
- If role plays are required, the assessor must ensure all ‘actors’ or ‘participants’ perform in a professional manner – reflecting an actual workplace. Participants are to be informed of their expected involvement.
- If a simulated workplace is used, it must allow for distractions such as background noises, ringing telephones, interruptions – etc.
- Each student must dress appropriately and professionally in line with workplace standards
- Relating their project to their current or preferred vocational direction
- Business models should be as realistic as possible, and documentation provided to the student should be as close as possible to what they would need to disseminate in a real work environment.
- Use the RTO as a base business OR the business structure (opportunity) as outlined below
For each assessment, you are to not to interfere with the assessment. In the event that the assessment is activities will impact on the safety of a student or bystander, the assessment must be stopped immediately
As part of small business opportunity undertaken in a group of 4-8 students within the classroom. During this program, each student will be required to participate in the conception and development of a small business, selling actual products or services. Students will be placed in teams of 4-8, with each member being required to rotate through the various positions within their organisation.
At a minimum, each student will be required to:
- Establish, plan and operate a self directed business
- Sell shares to raise capital
- Identify skills, experience and resources
- Explore and plan ethical business practices
- Identify, research and evaluate business opportunities that are unique, entrepreneurial, innovative and/or community focused
- Conduct breakeven analysis and determine financial feasibility
- Develop a product or service
- Plan quality production processes and source raw materials and suppliers
- Embed sustainability principles and practices into all business operations
- Create a marketing plan
- Develop a budget
- Write a Business Plan
- Actively market and sell the product or service
- Monitor results and if necessary review and improve
- Produce financial statements
- Provide a return to shareholders and make a donation to a Registered Charity
- Produce an Annual Report
The program will provide an authentic learning environment for each group, enabling them to build their skills, knowledge and experience by putting their ideas into action to establish, plan and operate a self directed business. Students will be mentored by both the trainer and experienced business and industry mentors as required
To ensure each student undertakes valid and reliable assessments, where students are required to develop, implement or review something, each student will undertake this task independently. They are to then present their outcomes to the group, who will vote on and implement the most favoured submission. This will ensure each student is comprehensively assessed in each unit, and not carried by any other person.
How it works
After allocating each group, students will brainstorm and test business concepts that can be run within the RTO facilities. Each student will be required to test their idea to ensure it is viable, and then develop a break-even analysis to determine financial feasibility. Next, each student will develop a business plan, with relevant finances and present it with their idea to the assessor (or other allocated person who will perform the role of “investor”, with the college investing a maximum of $1000 per group. However, each investment will be subject to the proposal supplied by the group.)
The winning concept from each group will be established, with the students rotating through the various roles within their organization. Roles will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing – allocating work, supervising the team and providing leadership across their organization.
- Financial – required to manage the finances and budgets / financial plans of the organization
- Marketing – required to develop and implement a marketing plan
- Conceptdevelopment – required to transition the concept to reality within the realms of an operating plan developed for the organisation
Each rotation will occur throughout the course duration, with training and assessment being undertaken in a logical format (following the steps taken to plan, develop and commence a business).
