You are going for an interview. In the interview, you are going to present yourself through 3 separate tasks:


  1. a short presentation that demonstrates your knowledge about business communication (see task 1 below)

  2. further evidence that you are able to communicate orally in a competent manner (task 2)

  3. evidence to test your writing skills. (task 3).



Task 1- Theory of communication


Plan and deliver a formal presentation that demonstrates your knowledge about business communication.

N.B: Presentation should be not less than 15 slides.

Details of what to include

1 Communication models and systems used in businesses

A description of communication models (e.g. message between sender and receiver) and the communication systems used in businesses. The systems are the range of processes used to communicate with different stakeholders so there is an effective communications system in place.

2 Presentation skills

-The importance of presentation

-A description how to make a presentation efficiently Please include online and offline presentation methods

-The importance of presentation

-The steps taken to make a presentation

3. Making communication effective

An outline of the principles of effective communication.

Include an explanation of the barriers to effective communication giving examples of barriers for different methods and how to remove or overcome them.



Extension activities:

To gain a merit grade your presentation must also:

  • propose solutions to the barriers of communication.


To gain a distinction grade you must produce a handout to accompany the presentation which has:

  • an analysis of the effectiveness of communication models and systems used in specific businesses

  • use appropriate animations and transitions and different tools of PowerPoint in order to make your presentation more effective and efficient.


Task 2 – Oral communication


Throughout your interview, you will be assessed on your communication skills and the interview panel wants to know how you communicate with different people.

Answer the following questions that you will be asked during the interview:


1-Introduce yourself with clear presentation of your strength and weak points


2-What could you offer for the company?


3- You are asked to role play a response to an irate customer who has not received the promised delivery, as she took holiday from work. Give your response to the interview panel.



Task 3 – Communication in writing


You are asked to send 3 emails for different situations as following:


1-You need to reply to an email sent by a customer who has a complain regarding a product of your company which didn’t work with him properly.


2-You need to write an email to your manager explaining to him a new project of your own which you believe it will have a great impact on business.


3-You need to write an email to your employees to announce the new norm and precautions that they have to take in work during COVID situation.
