Task: Edit Audio
Install Audacity following the directions found under General Course Content, Software.
Edit the audio files to rearrange “giant leap” with “small step”, alter the pitch, and overlap the fireworks audio on the voice audio. Use these tasks to accomplish the project:
Download this zip file to your computer W3_Audio_Starting_Files. Extract the two audio files into a new folder on your computer.
Run Audacity and check your computer’s audio settings: if necessary, unmute speakers and select the microphone as a default recording device .
Import the speech audio file (One_Step.mp3) using the File menu (File\Import\Audio). If prompted, choose to read the file from the original location. Use the green play arrow to Play the track. Import the sound of Fireworks audio file (Fireworks.wav). Use the green play arrow to Play the tracks.
You should see two tracks, one under another. We are going to work with the voice first, changing Mr. Armstrong’s phrase from “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” to “That’s one giant leap for man, one small step for mankind”.
Zoom (View\Zoom In) until you are comfortable with the level of details and select the “small step” audio fragment between 1:20 and 2:00seconds (total length – 0:80 seconds).
Click Edit\Duplicate (Ctrl+D) to create a copy of the selected fragment in a new track.
Select the “giant leap” audio fragment between 5:00 and 5:80 seconds (total length – 0:80 seconds).
Click Edit\Duplicate (Ctrl+D) to create a copy of the selected fragment in a new track.
Select (double-click) the duplicated “small step” fragment and copy it to the clipboard (Edit\Copy).
Select time between 5:00 and 5:80 in the original track and paste copied fragment there (Edit\Paste).
Select (double-click) the duplicated “giant leap” fragment and copy it to the clipboard (Edit\Copy).
Select time between 1:20 and 2:00 in the original track and paste copied fragment there (Edit\Paste).
Mute or delete the tracks with duplicated fragments now.
Select the whole audio track and change the audio pitch from B up to D.
Let’s align the Fireworks track, so it starts in the middle of the speech.
Move the cursor (click) to 4:00 timestamp in the Fireworks track.
Align the Fireworks track with the cursor position (Tracks\Align Tracks\Align with Cursor). The fireworks track should start at 4:00 now.
Select the first 3 seconds of the fireworks track (between 4:00 and 7:00) and select fade-in effect (Effect\Fade In).
Select the audio in the Fireworks track beyond 10:00 seconds and delete it (Edit\Remove Audio\Delete), so that overall duration of the sound clip is 10 seconds.
Export (File\Export) your resulting file as a file of type Ogg Vorbis. Use your instructor’s recommended file name or the file name, Week 3 Audio your name.
Export (File\Export) your resulting file as a file of type WAV 16 bit PCM. Use your instructor’s recommended file name or the file name, Week 3 Audio your name.
Play your files to verify your results.
Submit both the OGG and WAV files.
