Missouri is experiencing some of the fastest urban/suburban changes in the country. In the midst of these dramatic changes come shifts in demographics leading to many questions, perceptions and concerns. This paper will provide you the opportunity to study a specific area/neighborhood of St. Louis/Missouri (Central West End, Webster Groves, Dutchtown, Chesterfield, South City, etc…) with a focus in its cultural history and intercultural challenges it faces.
You will identify first impressions and your own experiences combined with perceptions. You will collect research and identify the cultural history and narrative. Focus on demographic changes over time, types of people living and working in the neighborhood (people-watching helps with this), architecture and environment and important institutions in the area.
