- Introduction: This section should provide a clear and complete description of the goal or argument of the paper. The topic should be clearly identified.
- Body:The paper should discuss at least two perspectives on the topic. The paper should provide a clear and succinct discussion of each perspective. Each perspective should have documented evidence of support or research findings negating their stance. The paper should clearly indicate which position appears to have the most empirical support. This is a research paper and your opinion should NOT be included.
- Organization: The paper should show good integration of information from the various sources (as evidenced by paraphrasing rather than direct quotations, and linking of ideas across sources). All paragraphs in the body of the paper should support the goal of the paper. Information should be well organized and communicated clearly in order to maximize readability.
- Conclusion: The paper should end with a clear and complete conclusion that ties together the points made in the body of the paper and should not introduce any new information.
- References: There should be at least four scholarly sources cited in the paper. Sources should be cited according to APA or MLA style.
- Grammar, readability, and length: The writing should reflect correct grammar, sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. - Style and voice: The paper should include clearly and concisely worded sentences. An active verb tense should be used when applicable. Word choice should be purposeful and varied.
- Avoid the use of conversation English (i.e. just, only, even)
- Elevate word choice (kids=>children, things=>activities, get=>received)
- When making a statement about a child be sure to provide supporting evidence. For example, “Joe was a leader in the classroom which was evidenced by how he often was the one providing new ideas to his peer group”.
- Psychological theories are not capitalized unless they are named for a person (i.e. Piaget’s stages of development)
