Case Study: Ms. Bosco's Class
How might you increase Ron’s understanding and commitment to the established classroom norms and procedures, beginning with the morning routine?
Since Ron has a short attention span and is easily distracted, for him to understand his roles and rules in the classroom he would need to be given job duties to help him since he gets easily distracted, this will help him to keep him occupied in the classroom. Redirection is a constant thing that will happen in the classroom as well to help him and the use of picture cards of his routines to help him with transitioning throughout the day.
Think about the three behavior theories you learned this week. Which theory might best fit this situation for behavior modification? Why?
The three principles addressed in this weeks discussion, I believe that classical conditioning will work best with Ron's situation that he is having in the classroom. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a newly learned response in a person or animal (McLeod, 2008). Learning new behavior is letting him know what is going to happen next or showing him a picture card so he is aware and this would help him in redirection, rules, and routine. Classical conditioning will help him make sense of his role as a student as well as the meaning so his behavior will change and there will be less distraction in the classroom that he will model positively.
