Some definitions may be helpful. According to Cooper and Schindler (2003), a proposition is “a statement about concepts that may be judged as true or false” (p. 50). A hypothesis is “a proposition formulated for empirical testing” (p. 50). A theory “is a set of systematically interrelated concepts, definitions, and propositions that are advanced to explain and predict phenomena” (p. 54).
