Parse’s Theory of Human Becoming
One of the most influential nursing theories is Parse’s Theory of Human Becoming. Basically, it guides nurses when taking care of patients to focus on life quality of the patients during the difficult moments. Parse’s Theory has three principles and they include building significance via the expression of experience and values of a patient; co-creating flowing relationships pattern in a common procedure with the world for example revealing-concealing, connecting-unraveling, enabling-restricting as well as powering exclusive ways of being restructure via the transformation procedure. Parse’s Theory of Human Becoming defines significance as the reality and experience of an individual in life (Pan, Hsieh & Ku, 2019). Parse describes becoming as the as joint human-existence, rhythmically comprising human-world procedure, human blueprint of associating priorities of value; inter particular transcending procedure with probable as well as joint human’s emerging. This paper discusses Parse’s theory of Human Becoming and the contribution of an additional theory to knowledge advancement in aid of multidisciplinary discipline or groups.
Parse’s Theory of Human Becoming posits life’s quality from every individual’s viewpoint as nursing profession objective. This theory sees people as free, united as well as beings that possess a free will and co-create their wellbeing and interrelate with their setting. Unitary as described by Parse is unpredictable, indivisible, as well as ever altering man’s part that makes selections while staying in a pattern that is paradoxical of becoming within a shared procedure with the world. Health entails living personal selected values; this is experienced life’s quality and the person defines it is not offered, diagnosed, judged, manipulated or guarded. This is a becoming procedure that unfolds and it does not have prescription of description by the norms of the society but through the person encountering issues (Mitchell & Bournes, 2017). This theory offer an option to conventional approach of bio-medical as well as the of bio-psycho-social-spiritual method of additional theories of nursing.
According to Petiprin (2016), this theory offers an approach that is transformative to every nursing level. It is different from the conventional processes of nursing specifically that its intention is not to “fix” issues.  This model offers nurses the capability to view the perspective of the patient. It permits the practitioner to stay “with” the sick person, and lead her or him to the goals of wellbeing. The relationships between the patient and the nurse co-create altering patterns of health.
Application of Parse’s theory of Human Becoming in the study
This theory is significant in the case of Ann and Ben. Hence, the key nurse’s objective in handling Ben’s case is ensuring that he regains his life’s quality after the demise of Ann. So as to achieve the objective, the practitioner should work closely with Ben, recognize and recognize his encounter and perspective. Utilizing the three dimensions of practice of Parse’s theory, namely, transcendence, meaning, and rhythm it is then possible to take care of Ben. Firstly, via revealing significance, it is now possible to recognize the feelings of Ben as well as his thoughts concerning the current situation. Secondly, through rhythm synchronization, the nurse will have the ability to settle with the thoughts of Ben as well as feelings. Ultimately, through the mobilization of transcendence, the nurse will have the ability to lead Ben on the manner of coping in his current situation. Parse theory possess three models namely simultaneity paradigm, totality paradigm and initially, man- existence-wellbeing theory. Additionally, totality paradigm will be applied by the nurse to recognize Ben’s case signs.  Black which is the major visible sign where the contrary paradox faced by Ben involved the loss of his wife, nephew Abe and Jessie the daughter dilemmas. Hence, irrespective of losing three members of his family, theory gave his strength and hope.
Characteristics of Human Becoming Nurse
According to Washburn (2018), nurse’s characteristics differ but a human becoming nurse needs the following characteristics:
Nature of Caring
Excellent nurses are the ones who are deeply and truly are concerned about their patients. Having the ability to support and comfort scared, vulnerable and ill individuals is the main characteristic of a nurse who is successful. A nurse needs time to provide the feeling of being accepted, support the patient as well as be a friend and the individual who has been given the duty to take care of them. Additionally, a respected nurse should be able to respect the privacy of the patient.
Be Empathetic
For majority of sick people, being within the hospital premises is an encounter that is emotional and traumatic. A nurse must be able to put herself in the shoes of the patients and their families.  A patient should never be thought of or be treated like a burden.  For a nurse to have the ability to comprehend the feelings of the patient, he or she must empathize with the patient and offer the required emotional assistance. For example, for a nurse to be able to understand Ben’s case, she must empathize with him first.
Be a Quick Thinker with Great Judgment
An experienced human becoming nurse must have the ability to reason first and make right decisions according to the required ethics of nursing because it is a matter of death or life in the patient’s life. The nurse should not often wait to get information plus she or he must have the ability to apply expertise, knowledge, and encounters in order to perform speedy calls of judgment.  Experience does not have a substitute but information is significant to have the ability of making excellent decisions. As a nurse who encounters serious cases daily, learning and reading constantly particularly is significant particularly if improvement areas are needed.
Be a Good Communicator
Communication is key in every profession as well as in day to day life. A nurse is a part of a remarkable, supportive society that is present when required.  “A problem shared is a problem half solved” and working within the field of nursing, the nurse is not an island, thee, one must be free to the colleagues and celebrate the amazing life-long relations that will be established in the line of profession. A patient going through difficult times requires a listening ear and support and having good skills of communication will help patient to achieve his health goals.
Be Adaptable
In the nursing career, each day is dissimilar. One should be ready for anything, an in case one knows the future, he/she will be met with a surprise. Consequently, the human becoming nurse must be supple. He/she should be ready for eventualities, as well as have the ability to quickly act when required. Particularly, it is true for a nurse who travels since one does not understand when and where the next work will be.
According to Mitchell and Bournes (2017), Parse understands that the real presence consists of availing oneself during the difficult moments of a patient and giving them focus. The moment offered to the nurse should be embraced in order to immerse as well have real talk with the sick person. The nurse does not just hear the sick person but also listens, with no interruption.  She understands that frontal communications are opportunities to start discussions as well as take part in dialogue. The practitioners must provide clarity for listening validation.  The unspoken immersions also comprise of language of the body. A lasting presence involves trying to glance with enhanced meaning of additional perspective of a person in the situation.
Strength and Weaknesses of the Theory
In comparison to other theories, Parse’s Human Becoming Theory possesses weaknesses and strengths.  This theory distinguishes nursing profession from other fields, it offers direction of useful and care administration, plus it is significant in learning. Additionally, this theory offers methodologies of research and offers a structure to lead investigation of additional models.  Nonetheless, the study is regarded as “closed circle.”It is rare to quantify results. To be precise, it is difficult to compare the results with additional studies of research because control team does not exist or consistent queries.  The model does not use processes of nursing, and ignores the notion that every patient is engaged in an experience that is unique (Petripin (2016). Also, fresh nurses cannot access it, and its use is in sever, emergent care.
Challenges of Using Parse’s Human Becoming Theory
With first transforming fiscal planning, management, technology and science, fresh challenges face nursing.  Peace in Home Healthcare, (2018) asserts that, some of the challenges facing this theory are shortage of nursing, financial issues and extreme patient’s biomedical requirements. Because the patient requires close attention, more nurses are required for each patient and hence more cost to the health facility.  Also, the health facility needs to train nurses for them to be able to understand patients. The nurses downsizing on the other hand affects ration of patient to nurse which eventually raises the nurse workload, and causes it to be hard for the nurse to attend the patient. However, nurses lack sufficient period to discover perceptions of the patient and eventually select biomedical care theory.
Transcendence Guide to the Nurse
According to Petiprin (2016), transcendence is a result of a procedure going above the moment significance to the unexpected.  This concentrates on possibilities dreaming as well as the method of accomplishing the dreams.  The nurse needs to lead Ben in preparing for alteration in standards of health, concentrating on seeing the fresh possibilities. This theory reveals that Ben is constant and the nurse should lead him to know that he is able to accept changes daily.   The nurse Baros, Silva, Guedes and Pessoa (2017) can clarify subject’s encounter meanings, via an interpretive and reflective procedure, inspire Ben to encounter and conquer the restrictions offered, transcending to wellness.
