creation of the Department of Homeland Security

Since the attacks of 9/11/2001 and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, there have been massive amounts of homeland security research and information created. Now that you have studied the design and execution of research, you will compare and contrast two homeland security research products and evaluate their effectiveness.
First, read and evaluate the research of the New York Police Department’s report: “.next.ecollege.com/pub/content/ada9f384-17b7-4ce4-8012-0e8c283ebb79/HSM_421_WA_3_NYPD_Report_Radicalization_in_the_West.pdf”>Radicalization in the West: The Homegrown Threat.” Read and evaluate the executive summary on pages 5-14. This report examines the incidence of homegrown terrorists within the borders of the U.S.
Next, read and evaluate the research of the Department of Homeland Security report: “.next.ecollege.com/pub/content/0c46f06a-9310-4e34-bb88-dd434c823e6b/HSM_421_WA3_DHS_Right_wing_Extremism_report.pdf”>Right-wing extremism: Current economic and political climate fueling resurgence in radicalization and recruitment.” This report provides an assessment of the threat of homegrown extremism from right wing groups.
Conduct a comparative analysis of these two homeland security research reports. Use this general outline to conduct your case study analysis:

    • What was the research question being addressed?
    • What literature was reviewed in support of this research?
    • What type of research methods were used in developing this research and subsequent report? Were the methods quantitative or qualitative?
    • How was the research collected for the report? Did the report use existing data, surveys, etc.?
    • Analysis: Were the report conclusions and analysis supported by the research and data presented in the report?
  2. Analysis: DHS Right-wing Extremism report (1 Page)
    • What was the research question being addressed?
    • What literature was reviewed in support of this research?
    • What type of research methods were used in developing this research and subsequent report? Were the methods quantitative or qualitative?
    • How was the research collected for the report? Did the report use existing data, surveys, etc.?
    • Analysis: Were the report’s conclusions and analysis supported by the research and data presented?
  3. Compare and Contrast: (1 page)
    • Which report provided the best analysis?
    • What report used the best research methodology to gather its data?
    • What were the weaknesses of these two reports in their research methods?
    • What other research methods do you believe might improve either reports effectiveness?
    • Do you agree with the analysis of these two reports?
The paper must be three to four pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page.
