Full Question

A group of private education institutions around the world has come together to form World University. It is a fully online university where lecturers teach online from any of its campuses to others around the world. Many different courses are offered. Students can sign on any time to study. All interactions with staff are online. Students can even choose which country they graduate from. A student who has studied his entire degree from Australia may choose to graduate from World University USA, as an example.

Senior management has finalised on the following decisions:

1. A customer loyalty scheme called StudyTogether Loyalty will reward students who introduce another student with fee credit depending on which course is picked. The university also uses agents to sell its offerings to employers. Applications are approved in less than 5 minutes. Payment for non-refundable fees are by credit card or Paypal.

2. E-book and laptop purchases are part of the course and will be available online. Students cannot opt out of purchases. A pre-configured laptop loaded with required software will be sent out to all students.

3. You are required to provide any two suitable business process or solution that could be employed to enhance this model. Substantiate this process or solution with relevant references to literature.

4. Suggest how social media can play a role in promoting this model – giving suitable approaches from literature. Avoid writing about the teaching aspect of education or item related to enrolled student activities such as clubs, societies, etc.

Q01 :  I have viewed the short video and what is AARDVARK and PENGUIN?

ANS: These are placeholder names for the business process or solutions you will introduce. One can be a business process and the other can be a business solution. You may want to refer to Chapter 4 and 8 of the textbook. Or it can be two business processes, or two business solutions.

Q02:  Do I have to use the name AARDVARK and/or PENGUIN in my assignment?

ANS: No. They are just placeholder names.

Q03: Can I critique the management decision of StudyTogether Loyalty and/or supplying free laptop, eBooks and digital tablet?
ANS: Yes, that is all within your right to do if your process or solution does not work well with it. But please justify it well. If you are going to say “I feel it is not going to work well…” (that is not a critique)

Q05: The “social media” bit – what is it all about?
ANS: Do you think social media is important in the business part? If yes, write and tell us how you plan to use it (remember to justify). Provide a balanced report here. Please do not suggest social media to unite students, plan club activities, sports, holidays etc. This is not wanted.

Q07: What kind of literature do I require?
ANS: Anything from academic journals to magazines. Read the rubric for details.

ANS: The idea of holding back Part 3 and 4 is to enable every student the same time to attempt an answer. All markers/lecturers are aware of the seven days you have. If you do not submit Part 3 and 4 – your work will be placed into a pile of highly suspect work and you will be called up by your lecturer to explain and/or penalised accordingly.
