Although you may have met several good leaders, only a few are great leaders. Given the opportunity, what great leader would you like to work with?


Select a great leader from your industry or an industry you are interested in joining. You should consider the following: in your current industry, there may be a position you aspire to join or you may have interest in joining another company that is more aligned with your goals and aspirations.


Write a 10 page biographical essay describing your leader. Consider including the following in your essay:




  • The personal or environmental factors that led to your leader’s successes and failures

  • The relationships that led to your leader’s successes and failures

  • The behaviors, including ethical behaviors, which led to your leader’s successes and failures

  • The leadership style of your leader

  • The influence your leader has in his or her industry


Be sure to support and justify your suppositions and conclusions with references to relevant library resources and academic journals. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.


A Note about Biographical Essays: The key to writing a good biographical essay is good data collection. Library resources, books, magazine articles, newspaper articles, etc. are all important sources for this type of assignment. If the person is still alive and is willing to be interviewed by phone or e-mail, that is also permissible. After data collection, the second most important aspect of a biographical essay is selecting the right content for your paper. You will want to present material that leaves the reader with a complete understanding of attributes that distinguish your selected leader.
