that can be further investigated and ultimately supported by conducting
research. There are many different directions a research paper might
take: for example, you might investigate the reception or patronage of a
specific work or series, or pose a question about an artist’s working
methods during a certain moment, or relate your argument to the
socio-political context of the time. You may choose a thematic topic
that considers specific works by several artists, or you may choose to
focus on a subset of one artist’s work. Whatever direction you choose,
you should make sure to have a clear, arguable thesis. *bibliography
should be composed of scholarly sources. This might include exhibition
catalogues, monographs, articles from peer-reviewed journals, and texts
on museums’ websites. Wikipedia is not an appropriate source. Internet
databases such as JSTOR, the Bibliography of the History of Art, and
Worldcat are often very helpful. Note, these are not a substitute for
books! Likewise, not all books are appropriate for this project—evaluate
your sources with a critical eye. This paper is for a class focused on
color as line in French 18th century in Patel Painting I would like to
use the painter Edgar Degas I find it interesting that his objects are
turned away from the viewer for example the ballet dancer series (which I
love) most ballerinas are not looking to the Painter so it seems as we
are peeking through their world
