Submit a maximum of 5 pages addressing the following:
1. Identify the cognitive triad typical of clients with clinical depression (one paragraph).
2. Discuss the common maintenance processes of depression.
3. Consider a hypothetical client experiencing major depression. Address the first 3 steps of the Course
of Treatment in Chapter 12 on page 283 of your textbook for this client.
For #2 when creating your case formulation, Kennerley et al. (2017) note that:
Our working definition of a CBT formulation is that a CBT formulation uses the CBT model to develop:
- a description of the current problems(s)
- an account of why and how these problems might have developed;
- an analysis of the key maintaining processes hypothesized to keep the problems going. (p. 68)
Make sure your case formulation includes these items. For #3, include Activity Scheduling & Behavioural Activation and one additional early-stage cognitive strategy. For activity scheduling, include a weekly activity schedule as a timetable to plan increases in activity and, activities previously identified as providing pleasure or achievement. Consider that you have already used a WAS to monitor what the client has been doing and what activities provide pleasure and achievement. It is now time to use the WAS as a planning tool. Make sure you describe your chosen interventions in detail for your specific client.
